Chiron, of Greek Mythology, was a Centaur, son of the Titan Chronus and Philyra, a sea nymph. Chiron lived and taught at the foot of Mount Pelion in Thessaly. Chiron was famous for his wisdom and knowledge of medicine, unlike other Centaurs, who were known to be violent and savage. He was teacher to Heracles, Achilles, Jason, and Asclepius. Heracles accidentally shot Chiron with a poisoned arrow, after which he renounced his immortality in support of Prometheus, and the God’s honored him with his prominent position among the stars as the constellation Centaurus.
